Sunset Chiropractic & Wellness Spine Research Review: Diagnostic Accuracy of Videofluoroscopy for Symptomatic Cervical Spine Injury Following Whiplash Trauma

Conclusions: Videofluoroscopic examination of the cervical spine provides a high degree of diagnostic accuracy for the identification of vertebral instability in patients with chronic pain stemming from whiplash trauma.

DMX (Digital Motion X-ray) is an image-intensified fluoroscopic x-ray system that allows the doctor or clinician to perform x-rays on a patient while moving the joint or body part.

The digital motion x-ray makes a digital video of the actual joint or body part in motion v(spine, hip, knee, ankle, foot, shoulder, elbow, wrist, hand, and TMJ).

DMX is an innovative diagnostic technology that can help diagnose painful conditions that are often undetectable by motionless static x-rays, MRIs, and/or CT Scans, MRI’s (magnetic resonance imaging).

Who should get a DMX Study?

Diagnostic Accuracy of Video fluoroscopy for Symptomatic Cervical Spine – Injury Following Whiplash Trauma

Anyone who has been in a motor vehicle accident (even a minor one), sports injury, or injury can benefit from the digital motion x-ray diagnostic analysis.

Patients who are experiencing ongoing problems such as neck pain or headaches but have not been successfully treated or diagnosed. Patients who have persistent symptoms and problems but their test results come back as normal.

The 22 Major Cervical Ligaments and Functions Tested With A Comprehensive Digital Motion X-ray (DMX) .

Right and Left Alar Ligaments- limits head rotation/ Ipsilateral flexion

Right and Left Accessory Ligaments – limits lateral flexion

Transverse Ligament – limits head flexion and anterior translation of C1

Five right Capsular Ligaments – limits axial loading and flexion

Five left Capsular Ligaments – limits axial loading and flexion

Five Interspinous Ligaments- limits flexion

Posterior Longitudinal Ligament- limits hyperflexion

Anterior Longitudinal Ligament- limits hyperextension

(DMX) Digital Motion X-Ray Quick Facts

DMX can provide valuable information about the stability and/or
injury of all 22 major ligaments in the cervical spine which cannot be detected by motionless MRI, CT, or Static X-ray.
MRI of the cervical spine is designed to evaluate DISC injuries while not moving, lying down, and not swallowing. Headaches , posterior neck pain or referred pain are commonly caused by ligament injuries which cannot be detected by motionless MRI, CT, or Static X-ray.
Digital motion X-ray (DMX) takes x-ray images while the patient is moving compared to conventional still or static x-rays, CAT scans, and MRI’s where the patient is told to “do not move and hold still.” The digital motion x-ray study is performed while the patient is in a weight bearing standing position and moving the body through different planes of motion. Each plane of motion tests for damage to the specific ligaments responsible for that motion and joint stability.

Sunset Chiropractic and Wellness’s Structural Correction Chiropractic Care rehabilitates the damaged spine and its damaged structures (muscles, ligaments, fascia, discs, bone, and nerves) improving the structure, function, while reducing and/or eliminating the pain, and improving overall quality of life.
